Founder and CEO of Move This World
The Power of Creative Expression
Sara Potler LaHayne is the visionary founder of Move This World, an organization built to support her belief that children are our future. A Fulbright Scholar, a professional dancer, and an award winning social entrepreneur, Sara dedicates her life to the emotional wellbeing of children and adults.
Like many founding entrepreneurs, Sara was the first person in the office and the last one to leave. She took meetings all over the country while trying to manage employees, develop and maintain quality programming, and raise funds. The problem was that while the company she started cultivates students’ social emotional learning skills — her own social and emotional wellbeing was suffering.
Even though Sara raised millions of dollars, delivered programs up and down the East Coast, and doubled the size of her team– all signs of success — Sara was burning out. It wasn’t until she realized how much her own emotional wellbeing impacted her creativity, that MTW really started to thrive. Now, Sara heralds the Power of Pause, her method of reclaiming time to refuel, recharge, and bounce back stronger than before. The Power of Pause has allowed her to leverage the change, become more resilient and grow personally and professionally.
Today, Sara has built a formidable ed-tech company, attracting millions of dollars in investment and impacting students and communities across the country. She’s been honored with awards, presented at conferences across five continents, and been featured in some of the world’s leading publications. Sara wakes up at oh-my-god o’clock to workout and meditate, she takes dance class twice a week — even while eight months pregnant — and she’s climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, because, of course. She manages it all while caring for her two children. She’s what you might call a Shero.
Move This World is currently supporting hundreds of schools across the country– and it’s more critical than ever before. There is an overwhelming amount of pressure, stress, and fear in our children’s schools. Depression and anxiety are regularly experienced by an alarming number of students. Rates of suicide and overdose keep increasing while teacher retention goes in the opposite direction. School shootings are on the rise. Our children are not safe.
There isn’t one single solution to all of these problems, but unless we collectively decide to prioritize the social and emotional wellbeing of young people, we have no chance of breaking this cycle. That is the mission Sara has dedicated her life to.
We invite you to spend some time on this website by reading some of her blogs, articles, or watching some of her speaking engagements, which are sure to get you inspired. You can also visit MoveThisWorld.com and check out the incredible work Sara and her team are doing.
But most importantly, join the social and emotional revolution. If we can’t manage our emotions or have empathy for those experiencing hard times, then grades, money, jobs, and housing don’t mean much. We’re nothing without relationships, starting with the one we have with ourselves.
